April 11, 2021 — So a few weeks back there was much excitement shared about the warm spring weather and how nice it was going to get around by riding a bike or walking along a sidewalk. Ring the bell! Dodge the cicada! I have the right of way, Asshole! The only obvious way to celebrate this, I thought to myself, is to create a playlist!

Many good or appropriate songs about walking or biking already exist, while a few I found as I began looking for appropriate tunes. A number of walking or biking songs may come to mind that are not here. Maybe I didn’t know about them or maybe I just chose not to include them. One amazing gem, unfortunately, isn’t on Spotify. But you should find a place in your heart for it regardless.

To paraphrase Jane Jacobs, sidewalks are the main public place of a city, a most vital organ of democracy where each citizen may encounter any other type of citizen. Such is this mix. There’s a sampling of many different sounds, but they come together in a glorious melting pot of music about active transportation and the many reasons we love to walk and bike.
